Be like water if you can, 2020.

Driftwood, metal, plants, resin, pigments, plastic, thread, syringe, pills (prescription drugs), 2 x 3 m.

Taking as a reference one of Bruce Lee's famous precepts: "Be water my friend", the title of this work alludes to our capacities for resilience and flexibility. By dealing in her work with subjects such as affective ecology or intersectional feminism, the artist studies and deals with different overlaps of discrimination: health, the medical world and ableism in general but also the refugee crisis or that of COVID. , while exploring the representation of nature in a globalized system. In the idea of symbiosis and productive transition, Anne-Laure Franchette thus questions our systems of knowledge, beliefs and emotions through the reconversion and recycling of objects. Reuse thus allows him to question what was produced and under what conditions. This recognition of objects from the past, associated with a reinvention of their identity, converts them into kinds of totems. These installations made up of odd elements, such as physical materials, waste and weeds, are put to work thanks to the energies and the sensitive forces which are established between them, in a perspective defying an abusive productivism and for the benefit of 'a “wild” and fairer nature.
